As of August 31, 2007, I am officially called Sean Abalos. Yes. Thanks to our beloved Dean Ulpiano "Ulan" Sarmiento III. Why? For some reason, well I can't blame him though, he can't seem to get my name right. Once she called me Shemileen in front of my entire batch during a joint obli class. Worst, he got mad because he thought I was pretending to be absent. I blame my blockmate for that because he pretended to be absent despite Ulan seeing him. Anyway, since he called my Shemileen, my dear beloved friends started calling me as such. Less than a year later, specifically the Freshmen Workshop in Atty. Batino's farm in Tagaytay, he again called me. This time he has a job for me. San Beda Alabang to this day is an extention of the Mendiola campus. There have been preparations for its separation. Yet, for some reason, it has not been finalized. Anyway, on that fateful day in Tagaytay, Dean Ulan announced that the school board of trustees and the rest of the Benedictine community wants to know what the Alabang population thinks of this separation. Thus, a referendum was initiated. Since a referendum requires the exercise of the right of sufferage, inevitably, an election committe more popularly known as COMELEC needs to be created. Thus, in front the freshmen, Dean Ulan suddenly says: "Sean! Sean! Kayo na bahala magasikaso sa referendum." or something to that effect. In short, he appointed me as COMELEC chair. It does not end there. Last Friday August 31, 2007, he held a Dean's Assembly. The objective is to address our redress and grievances and answer the freshmen's questions of the pros and cons of separating from Mendiola. Like all assemblies, there is always a time for open forum. I stood ask to address a concern that most of the students have i.e. THE LIBRARIANS. While I was standing in front of the mic, he suddenly says, by the way, Sean will be in-charge of the referendum. By the power invested in me I appoint Sean as Chairman and Tara as vice. Yes. In front of the entire student population, the Dean suddenly calls me Sean. Now, everyone thinks my name is Sean. To make things more exciting, our entire batch hates our election professor. And since they hate him so much, they cannot forget the last question of our midterms exam. Why can't we? It's the one question we were never prepared to answer. He asked, name the chairman of the COMELEC and the commissioners sitting in each division. Give their full names. GREAT!!! The one thing we forgot to memorize. The COMELEC commissioners. Of the members of the COMELEC, the only name we are sure of is that of Benjamin Abalos Jr. Chairman of the COMELEC. Since that fateful announcement, I am addresses by some of my beloved blockmates as Chairman Abalos. Thus, as of August 31, 2007, I am official Chairman Sean Abalos.
By the way, he calls me Sean despite my beloved friends continuous mocking. On the lighter side, at least he does not have to call me different names everytime.
